Curator’s Spotlight: Frank Bush

In the spotlight are the ballerina pieces by Frank Bush. These bas relief wall pieces have at once a naïve appearance that mask a sophisticated use of foreground and background, of three dimensions and two dimensions. Best exemplified by “Resting”, the sculpted figure stands out from the painted image of the studio while being reflected back into the space by a mirror in the background. These and other works by Frank are very worthy of a slow, closer work and have the complexity to be of interest for a long time to come.
